Unni recieved his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from NIT Calicut, India. He started his career as a scientist at Naval physical Oceanographic Laborotory Cochin. At NPOL his major responsibilities were design and developemt of mechanical subsystems of towed array sonars. Afer working for 4 years at NPOL, he joined University of Cincinnati, US to pursue masters degree in Mechanical engineering. After completing his masters degree he joined ARL in October 2009.
